Portslade Old Police Station

THE OLD POLICE STATION IN ST ANDREWS ROAD - A HERITAGE CENTRE FOR PORTSLADE AND ITS COMMUNITY.

Brighton and Hove Heritage Commission - in association with our local councillors, Portslade History Group and the Portslade Community Forum  - is working on behalf of Portslade.

At the Policy and Resources Committee meeting in March the flawed Green plans to turn this landmark building - an early 20th century police station - into a maisonette, were outvoted.  This followed pressure from both Labour and Conservative members, and from the Brighton and Hove Heritage Commission.

We were given six months to turn our vision into a business plan.

Now that the council election is over the BHHC is taking the next important step.

That is - to put together a business plan for the Old Police Station, in collaboration with Portslade stakeholders.

Here are the key questions.

- how will the community benefit from having a Heritage Centre?
- what resources should the Heritage Centre have?
- how should the Police Station be converted?
- how can the community run the Old Police Station Heritage Centre?
- how much will the conversion cost?
- what will the running costs be?

BHHC has already started work, and we want to talk to stakeholders in Portslade and elsewhere.  We need and invite your input.

Can you help?
